Drill a weak spot
A short voice drill on one kind of mistake, built from sentences you got wrong. Stop whenever you like.
Fluency sprint (4/3/2)
Tell the same story three times, each time to a new listener and with less time. Your partner stays silent and never corrects you: the aim is to get faster and smoother. Pick something you know well.

Level ●○○ to ●●●. Stars: ★ half your mission, ★★ all of it, ★★★ all of it and most expressions on your own.
Only real mistakes come back here, ten at a time. First you pick the right version, then you fix the marked part, then you say it right from memory. Answer by voice or typing; other correct answers count.
Comes back often
The same mistake in different sentences, in more than one conversation. These are habits, not slips: practise each one with all its sentences.
Upgrades: more natural ways
You said these fine; these are just more natural. They're not in your reviews unless you tap Practise it. One that keeps coming up joins your reviews by itself.
By type
Practise one kind at a time, typed or as a voice drill.

How you speak
Measured from your own words in conversations and role-plays: speed and turn length (fluency and complexity), word variety, and corrections (accuracy). Single sessions vary; watch the trend.
Show as a table
Words you lean on
The safe, general words you used most in your last talks. Your partner now says the same ideas with sharper words, so you hear them. Try one yourself.
Mock test estimates
From your speaking-test role-plays, oldest first. Estimates from your AI partner, not official scores: watch the trend.
Fluency sprints
Words per minute in rounds 1, 2 and 3. The last round should be your fastest.
Balance, last 7 days
A balanced course gives about a quarter of the time to each (the line marks 25%).

Your mission
Your partner sets three goals at the start. They appear on screen, and tick off as you reach them.
Expressions to use
Use them when the moment comes. Using most of them on your own earns the third star.
From your last attempt
Try these better phrasings this time.
Last time you said these. Say them right this time; your partner sets up the moment.

Corrections
Something will go wrong partway through. Handle it; that's the point. Stuck? Tap Help.
One minute to plan
How will you open? How will you reach each goal? Which expressions will you use? Think it through, or whisper it. Don't write it out.
A minute of planning makes what you say more accurate and more fluent.
New scenario
Only the title and the situation are required. Anything you leave empty, your partner makes up on the spot.

Words you rate Again or Hard here come up in your next conversation, so you practise them out loud. Pick which deck feeds conversations in Settings.
More: Anki import and export, add a card by hand, new deck
Import from Anki
Brings your cards over with their review history and ratings, so nothing starts from zero. Importing again updates the cards and adds new reviews; nothing is duplicated.
How to export from Anki
AnkiDroid: tap the menu (three dots) on the deck list, then Export collection. Keep Include scheduling information and Include media on, and save the file. For a single deck: long-press the deck, Export.
Anki on a computer: File, Export, Anki Collection Package (.colpkg) or Anki Deck Package (.apkg) with scheduling included.
Files: .colpkg, .apkg, or a collection.anki2 file.
Send your cards to Anki
A deck package (.apkg) with every card, its reviews and pictures and sounds. Open it with Anki or AnkiDroid to keep studying there; nothing here changes.
Add a card by hand
Any note type, like in Anki. For a phrase you want to say, use Add a phrase above: it looks the phrase up and makes a speaking card.
New deck
How likely you should be to remember a card when it comes back. Higher means more reviews. 0.90 is a good default.

Extension problems, last two weeks
Sent by the extension when it can't read a video's subtitles, or written by someone in its popup. Many of one kind on one site at once usually means YouTube or Netflix changed something.
Test prep: real results and scoring experiments
Score reports learners sent with their real results. Open each one, then say whether it counts. The picture is deleted either way.
An experiment scores the tests that came with real results again, each way you tick, with this site's OpenAI key (about one call per test per way; "separate" makes one per TOEIC answer). The way with the lowest corrected error lands closest to real results: make it the one in use.
Who can use the AI
The voice partner, look-ups, translations and speaking cards are paid from your OpenAI account. With both switches off, only the accounts you turn on below (and yours) can use them.
Accounts
Newest first. Turn on gives an account the AI, with up to 60 speaking minutes; turn off takes the AI away (their minutes wait).
Give minutes
Tap an account above to fill in its email. Minutes don't run out with the month; a minus number takes them back.

Know your grade. Then raise it.
Take a free five-minute mock run like the real test and get an estimated grade with a note on each part of the scoring. Then practise by voice every day on exactly what holds your grade back.
How it works
- Take a free mockFive minutes, no account: an examiner who doesn't help, the real kinds of questions.
- See what holds you backAn estimated grade, a note on each part of the scoring, and the one change that would raise it.
- Practise it out loudVoice conversations and full mocks every day. Every mistake comes back until you say it right.
- Watch your grade moveEach mock is kept, so you see the trend before test day.
How it works
- Save what you watchShare a YouTube video to RealTalk (or paste its link) and tap any word in its subtitles; on a computer, our Chrome extension does it on YouTube and Netflix. Each phrase keeps its sentence and scene.
- Remember itSaved phrases become flashcards scheduled by FSRS, the algorithm behind modern Anki, with a button that replays the original moment. Your Anki decks come too.
- Say it for realYour partner steers the chat so you use those phrases yourself. Using one counts as its review, and every mistake comes back until you say it right.
Couldn't say it today? Say it tomorrow.
Every learner has moments where the words just don't come. Write what you wanted to say, in Korean if you like. You get what a native speaker would say, casual and polite. Save it, and your next conversation sets up a moment like that so you say it yourself.
“ํ์๋ฅผ ๋ค์ ์ฃผ๋ก ๋ฏธ๋ฃฐ ์ ์๋์ง ๋ฌผ์ด๋ณด๊ณ ์ถ์์ด์”
Could we push the meeting back to next week?
Tomorrow: your partner plays your manager, and you ask.
Why it works better
| RealTalk | Typical apps | |
|---|---|---|
| Real back-and-forth conversation, not repeat-after-me | ✓ | some |
| Save phrases from YouTube and Netflix with their scene | ✓ | some |
| Saved phrases steer your voice conversations, and using one counts as its review | ✓ | – |
| What you couldn't say today becomes tomorrow's practice | ✓ | – |
| Every mistake remembered and brought back | ✓ | – |
| OPIc and TOEIC Speaking mocks run the way the tests run, with estimates checked against real results | ✓ | some |
Why it works: learners understand far more words than they can use. Saying a word yourself, in a real situation, is what turns knowing it into using it.
Built on research into how adults become fluent: retrieval practice, spaced repetition, corrective feedback and the 4/3/2 fluency technique.

Questions
Do I need Anki?
No. RealTalk has its own flashcards. If you use Anki, import your collection and your ratings come along, so the conversation starts with the words you find hard.
What level do I need?
Beginner to advanced. Tell us your level and your partner adjusts its words and speed. After each conversation it judges the level you spoke at, and offers to move up when you're ready. You choose how much it corrects you.
Can I prepare for OPIc, TOEIC Speaking or IELTS?
Yes. Mock tests run the way each test runs, with an examiner who doesn't help, the planning time and the time limits. Afterwards you get an estimated grade or band with notes on each criterion and the one change that would raise it. It's an estimate to practise with, not an official score.
Is my data private?
Your cards and conversations are yours. We don't sell data, and you can download or delete everything any time. Voice is processed by OpenAI's API, which doesn't train on it by default.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in your browser; add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
Where does the extension work?
In Chrome, Edge, Whale and other Chromium browsers on a computer, on YouTube and Netflix, and on any page you right-click. On a phone, tap Share in YouTube or any app and pick RealTalk.

Chrome extension for your computer
YouTube and Netflix with clickable subtitles: click a word to see what it means in that line, save the phrase with its scene, and it comes back in your cards and your next conversation.
Do this on a computer. In Chrome there, open:
Add it from the Chrome Web Store- Download the extension, then unzip it (right-click the file, then Extract All). ⬇ Download the extension
- In Chrome, open this address and turn on Developer mode (top right):
chrome://extensions - Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
- Click the puzzle piece next to the address bar and pin RealTalk. A tab opens and connects your account.
- Open a YouTube video or a Netflix show, and click any word in the English line.
Updating? Download it again, unzip it over the old folder (replace the files), then press ↻ on RealTalk in chrome://extensions. Your account stays connected.
Chrome may show a note about developer mode extensions when it starts: that's normal for extensions added this way. Computers at work, school or in the military may block it.
What did you want to say?
Stuck for words today? Write what you meant, in your own language or broken English. You get what a native speaker would say, and your next conversation makes you say it.

First, say the line out loud. You'll see which words a listener caught.
Your AI partner starts a two-minute voice chat about the scene and gets you to use what you saved. Just talk; it corrects you as you go.

How this test runs
OPIc background survey
Pick what you'd talk about
The real test starts with this survey, and most of its questions come from what you pick. Your picks are kept: practice asks about them too.
A common way to pick: no work or school questions, and topics that share stories (movies, shows and concerts; parks, walking, jogging and hiking; home and trips), so there's less to prepare.
Somewhere quiet, with headphones if you can. Each answer is recorded; stop whenever you need to.
How to answer this kind of question
How should the rest feel?
The real test asks again here. Harder questions give you the chance at a higher grade.
Some answers weren't heard well: the microphone caught speech, but no words came through. This estimate isn't counted in your level. Check the microphone, then take the mock again.
An estimate from your recorded answers, each scored on the test's own criteria for that kind of question. It isn't an official score.

Free videos to learn from
Films, talks and documentaries anyone may use, from Wikimedia Commons, with English subtitles. Tap any word as you watch; save a line and its card plays the scene.
A YouTube video
Paste a YouTube link (or share a video from the YouTube app to RealTalk). It plays in YouTube's own player, with its English captions as lines you can tap.
Your own video
A video on this phone or in your Google Drive, with its subtitle files. The video never leaves your phone or your Drive.
How it works
Watching the show on a computer? Tap 📱 in the RealTalk extension's side panel: the show's English and Korean subtitles come here, with their exact times. Then tap “With the video” on them below.
Or choose the video and its subtitle files together (.srt, .vtt, .smi, .ass, or an Excel, CSV or text export). An .mkv video with English subtitles inside works on its own; Korean comes from the translator if it has none. The subtitles are kept in your account; the video stays on this phone. A line you save keeps its few seconds of sound, so its card plays the actor saying it.
Videos you pick in Google Drive play on any phone or computer you sign in on. They stream from Google; nothing is copied.
Your subtitles
Play the video. When you hear a line begin, tap that line in the list below.
